How does the Staff Selection Commission or SSC work in India?


Staff Selection Commission or SSC in India is actually a government undertaking organization that contacts different types of exams for the requirement of staff for different posts in various kinds of Departments and Ministries of the Indian Government as well as in the subordinate offices.

The headquarters of the staff selection commission is situated in New Delhi. Presently, it has as many as 7 regional offices that are located in New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Guwahati, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Prayagraj.

There are two sub-regional offices – one of which is located in Chandigarh and another one in Raipur.

What is the importance of SSC in India?

The SSC exam is regarded as among the most-awaited and in-demand entrance exams in India that aspirants from various academic disciplines look forward to. Each and every year different numbers of exams are conducted by the SSC for the selection of candidates of merit for different types of job roles.

There is a regional setup of the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for the seamless conducting of exams. The exams are conducted at different centers as far as possible and candidates who are successful in all these tests are posted in their home region or state as much as possible.

  • Stenographer Group C & D
  • SSC GD Constable
  • SSC Sub Inspector Post
  • Junior Hindi Translator
  • Junior Engineer
  • SSC Combined Graduation Level exam
  • SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level exam

Recruitments for different types of posts are conducted by SSC through these exams. There is a different pattern for each exam for each recruitment purpose. There is a two-stage written exam for most recruitment purposes, with one being the descriptive type and the other one being the multiple-choice question type.

For defense categories job roles such as SI and GD constable, medical tests, and physical efficiency tests will be included. However, candidates who are interested in becoming DEO MTS stenographers or office assistants need to pass the skill test that is organized only for them.

The candidate leads to pass all the stages of the examinations separately in order to clear the entry process of selection and get recruited. In the final or last stage document verification and interview session are also there and please must be passed as well. All exams are individually conducted by SSC via the regional department.
